Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: What does a CIT officer do?
A: CIT officers respond to crisis calls involving possible mental health issues. They evaluate and de-escalate potentially volatile situations and as necessary transport individuals suffering from a mental illness to community-based facilities for evaluation, treatment, and referrals, instead of subjecting them to immediate arrest when appropriate.

Q: How do I get a Crisis Intervention Officer to assist?
A: If you or a loved one are in a time of crisis you can call 911 in an emergency and request a Crisis Intervention Officer.

Q: How do I contact a Crisis Intervention Officer if it is not an emergency?
A: If you would like to speak to a Crisis Intervention Officer and you do not feel it is an emergency, you can wait until normal business hours and contact your local department.  If you would like to speak to a Crisis Intervention Officer after business hours you can call 911 and request to have an on duty Crisis Intervention Officer contact you.  The on duty Crisis Intervention Officer will contact you when they are available.
